Doug Suttles was appointed Chief Operating Officer for BP’s Exploration and Production business in January 2009. His responsibilities include executive responsibility for BP’s E&P businesses in Alaska, the Asia Pacific region, South America, the North Sea and Africa. He also is responsible for BP’s E&P technology functions.
Mr. Suttles received a mechanical engineering degree from the University of Texas in 1983 and joined a major oil and gas company with initial engineering assignments in Texas and Oklahoma. In 1988 he joined BP in Alaska, where he held a variety of engineering and management positions. Subsequent assignments included management and executive staff positions in the North Sea and BP's London headquarters.
In 1999, he was appointed president of BP's Trinidad oil business. This was followed by an appointment as Global Supply Chain Management vice president. In late 2001, Mr. Suttles served as vice president of BP's exploration and production activities in the North Sea. He has also served as technology vice president for the operations and health, security, safety and environment functions in exploration and production technology. Mr. Suttles then held the position of president of BP Sakhalin. His most recent assignment prior to being named COO was as President of BP’s Alaska business.
He has served as a Board member of numerous non-profit groups and is a member of the University of Texas Engineering Advisory Board.
